POLYSULFONE PLASTIC MACHINING
Pete Poodiack, VP of Sales and Marketing at Controlled Fluidics, talks about Polysulfone plastic and what makes it a popular material for plastic machining and fabrication.
Welcome. This video is about polysulfone. At Controlled Fluidics, this is one of our top 10 most popular polymers. In this video, Iām going to quickly explain its benefits and its main applications.
Polysulfone is a dimensionally stable, steam-resistant material, with low outgassing properties. It also offers high tensile strength, and it resists creep and deformation. Polysulfone maintains its integrity even when itās under continuous load pressure and in temperatures up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
Polysulfone is an FDA-approved material, and it can stand up to soap, detergent, hot water, and steam. It can also resist some hydrocarbon oils in moderate-stress situations. This makes it a good material for food and beverage processing, but thatās not the most popular use.
The most popular applications for polycarbonate tend to be in the aerospace, automotive, and life sciences fields. Itās also used a lot in medical research devices. Part of the draw with polysulfone is that itās a self-extinguishing material. That means that it stops burning once the flame source has been removed.
A lot of projects simply donāt need the benefits offered by Polysulfone, but if these elements are critical to your project, it could be the right material for you.
This only covers the basics. Learn more about Polysulfone PlasticĀ on our materials page.
