CORROSION RESISTANT MATERIAL WITH EXCEPTIONAL THERMAL PROPERTIES
Most know PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) by its more common name, Teflon. As a high performance fluoropolymer, this has earned a place as another kind of "powerhouse plastic" due to its several exceptional qualities. Made of the synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, its unique structure consists of fluorine atoms surrounding long chains of carbon atoms that connect to create this incredible material.
Teflon is a corrosion and chemical-resistant material with exceptional thermal properties. It is non-flammable and boasts very high dielectric strength. It's a very popular plastic for electrical applications and chemical and steel processing. Renowned for its intensely slick and slippery properties, designers often choose Teflon when products need reduced friction and high resistance against wear.

Machined parts made from PTFE provide exceptional chemical, electrical and thermal properties. Teflon components are almost totally unaffected by chemicals, and have among the lowest dielectric constant and dissipation factor of any plastic.
With 500°F continuous use temperature resistance, properties are essentially constant throughout the operating temperature range with high surface and volume resistivity. PTFE has among the lowest coefficient of friction of any plastic making a great material for wear applications. Low water absorption with high flexibility and resilience to weathering make it a useful plastic for many applications. Teflon is not for structural applications as it is low strength. Teflon is expensive in comparison to other plastics, and has typical stock shape colors of black and white.
